8th SEPTEMBER IS INTERNATIONAL PHYSICAL THERAPY DAY

Following a motion adopted at the WCPT General Meeting in 1995, WCPT designated 8th September as International Physical Therapy Day. WCPT was founded on this day in 1951. International Physical Therapy day marks the unity and solidarity of the physical therapy community from 101 countries around the world. To date, activities & materials to celebrate the day have been left to Member Organisations so that they can be developed to reflect key national priorities & messages.

In 2006 we began to profile the International Physical Therapy Day activities of our Member Organisations on the website at http://www.wcpt.org/about/internationalptday/index.php. We would like to add to this page and encourage you to provide us with brief details of any activities you’ve undertaken. Please send the details to rmoore@wcpt.org

In preparation for International Physical Therapy Day 2008, we hope to develop resources which MemberOrganisations and others might find helpful in planning activities. You can assist by telling us what kind of material you would find useful and sending copies of resources you have developed and are prepared to share with other Member Organisations.

In celebration of World Physical Therapy Day 2007, the WCPT President, Marilyn Moffat, has prepared the attached short article on obesity as an international health issue. Please feel welcome to distribute it, use it in your publications or on your websites as appropriate. Over the next four years we hope to regularly develop statements/articles on international health issues which Member Organisations can then publish or circulate to relevant bodies in their country.
