IAP West Bengal Branch was formed in 1981 with 14 members under convenorship of Dr. A. N. Mallik this is one of oldest branch of IAP. Now this branch of 1500 members and having eight (8) District branches. This branch is an example of continuous movement for the professional upliftment. We fought hard to introduce BPT after abolishing the DPT. But after abolished of DPT again it was restarted by State Govt. in spite of our repeated objections. We succeed to convene the Govt to introduce condensed course for the DPT persons to upgrade in BPT. We fought to improve the poor and humiliating recruitment rule and the pay scale in State Govt. Hospitals and got success. We organized thousands of workshops and seminars as continuous education program. We organized three (3) National Conferences and sixteen (16) State Conferences. We observe world Physiotherapy Day every year. IAP WB branch under convenorship of Dr. Arup Kanti Saha (PT) facilitated to form physiotherapy students organization in 1999 through IPGMER for the demand of MPT and recruitment in State Govt hospitals. We always are being active against the quackism and malpractice in the field of physiotherapy. Lots of awareness camp we use to do throughout the year. Independent state council was our long standing demand from the very beginning of the branch. We did lot of open demonstrations and road rally in front of state head office of the Health Dept and different CMOH offices also. In 2015 the state government introduced AMPM council bill in which our autonomy, dignity and status were very much compromised. Therefore after discussion with CEC, we filled a case against that council act in the Kolkata High Court which is still going on. We are hopeful and confident to take our profession in a bright and satisfactory destination in near future.
